The Museum of the Duomo

These are works that have been removed from the Duomo to keep them safe from the elements.

This last pieta by Michelangelo was done in his late 80s before
he died. The man standing is Nicodemus and he has the face of Michelangelo.

The emaciated, hollow-eyed, almost toothless figure seems to demonstrate the mood that surfaced at the end of the century in Florence under the spell of Savonarola.
