My granddaughter, Ashley, and I spent 3 weeks in Italy this summer.
And, yes, we are still speaking !!!
We landed in Zurich, in a thunderstorm, stayed 2 nights and then trained to Domodossola, Italy, visiting Trasquera, Bugliaga and Varzo for 2 nights. We met wonderful people and enjoyed the sight of the rugged Alps with their dripping glaciers.
We ate the local food and drank the local wine. We ate lardo, the food of my grandmother.
Then on to Varenna, Venice, Siena, Pisa, Florence, Monterosso al Mar, ending in Rome. We traveled by train: the new super-fast AVeuro, the CisAlpine train which tunnels thru the Alps into Italy from the rest of Europe, the fast EURO, regional and local trains - and a bus to Siena. We saw unbelievable art in all sizes and forms. We ate like queens, stayed in wonderful small hotels, and walked our feet off. We walked the city at night.
Abbiamo preso i treni per tutte citta`. Abbiamo visto l'arte, mangiato bene, e passeggiato dappertutto di sera..
When Ashley left for home, I met my friend, Kathy, who flew in from London. The two of us visited Rome, Florence, and Venice. It was amazing how many wonderful finds there were just around any corner, beautiful buildings with unbelievable art and architecture. At Milan we parted, Kathy to stay there for 2 days and I went back to the Alps for one last visit before leaving for home.
I wanted again to visit my roots and connect with the people who may very well be related to me and my family.
Thank you Valerio and Angela for hauling us all over the mountains! We had a good time.
Ci siamo divertite molto!
Thank you Angela for a wonderful stay at La Fraccia. The food was great and I enjoyed talking with you.
Thank you Luciana for the wonderful family lines you made for me. Everyone in the family has a copy.
Thank you Lisanna for letting us use your computer to see if the baby had come yet. He waited until we were home !
Ha aspettato a nascere finche` siamo state a casa.
Thank you Lucia for letting us see the inside of your house, my grandmother's old home. I really felt like I was in touch with Grannie when I was inside. And thank you for that great big key as a souvenir of our trip to Bugliaga.
Thank you to those who showed us such kindness and friendliness. You will be forever in my heart.
